About Us
The ASCFT (Alberta Society of Clinical and Forensic Toxicologists) was formed in May 1986, in part, to assist in hosting the 24th meeting of The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists (TIAFT) in Banff, Alberta, July 28-31, 1987. That TIAFT meeting was the first held outside Europe which was independent of the IAFS (International Association of Forensic Sciences) and attracted over 200 registrants from countries all over the world.
The ASCFT is a non-profit society registered under Alberta Corporate and Consumer Affairs (May 23, 1986). The founding members were Graham Jones, Peter Singer, Leo Walter, Maureen Drost, Don LeGatt and Robert Audette.
The ASCFT held a number of meetings and seminars in Edmonton and Calgary, starting July 1986. Since 1990, Annual General Meetings have been held in Kananaskis and Canmore, Alberta. Currently, the Fall Meeting is held jointly in Edmonton and Calgary through the use of videoconferencing.
The AGM always follows a similar format: a Friday night social gathering, scientific sessions on Saturday morning lasting four hours and an evening banquet (often featuring a guest speaker).
The name of the society was changed to Alberta Society for Human Toxicology (ASHT) in 2002.
